COSTA COFFEE
BRIEF
‘Think big in a small space and inspire the world to love great coffee - What is the smallest size store in which we can put a Barista and a coffee machine? Where is this store? How do you communicate hand crafted expertise and shape the customer experience where speed and convenience are critical?’ [Sam Freshwater, Costa Coffee Store Design Manager, 26 July 2018]
CONCEPT
The ‘Costa Pods’, intended for in or outside of train stations around the UK, are flexible for different times of day and adaptable to meet customers’ needs. The Pods are targeted at commuters of all ages who want to get away from the surrounding environment to enjoy a cup of coffee, gather for a small meeting, make a phone call or relax while on their travels.
These are ‘individual’ 2-person pods which can be locked together to create larger pods for meetings, bringing a small office to you. From the ‘Barista Pod’ being the smallest coffee store, whereby a Barista and a coffee machine can be placed, the layout can be adapted depending on the location and customer needs, with the ability to add an unlimited amount of seating. The pods include USB plug sockets, internet and directional Bluetooth speakers, powered by either electrical supplies inside the station or roof-mounted solar panels for outside stores, for those who want to make a group phone call or enjoy their favourite music during their commute.
